Letting Go

When we first moved into our house, a then friend of mine gave me a canister set to put on my counter. It has proved very useful over the years.

In September of 2011, this person decided she no longer wanted to be in my life. She felt that she was not high enough on my priority list and wrote me an email stating that she wanted to be higher than the number 3 slot I reserve for all my friends. I explained to her that the top two slots are reserved for my hubby, my daughter, my mother and me. Should my friends need me, they get temporarily bumped up to a higher slot. But they don't get the privilege of STAYING there.

She was not happy with my priority system, said good-bye and walked out of my life. In all honesty, it was a good thing. This person had other issues that I could not help her with and the negativity she brought to my life was not good for me. So, a blessing in disguise.

But I still saw those canisters every day
And it would remind me of her and how bad I felt that I couldn't help her, couldn't give her the time and attention that she demanded.

So, I'm saying good-bye to the canisters.
And hello to shiny new ones!

I also wrote her a letter saying good-bye and that I wish her no hard feelings.
On the contrary, I wish her the best.
And then I shredded it.
(She wouldn't have read it even if I'd mailed it to her.)
