Oh Happy Spring

Well, it WAS sunny and gorgeous this morning, so I got a few snaps of the crocuses.
Sadly, the clouds have stacked up again and it's dark and grey.

One thing that I absolutely LOVE about spring is the smell.
Everything smells new and clean, even the dirt.

I'm looking forward to getting the front yard finally finished and the garden boxes built for the back yard.
It'll be nice to eat my own home grown produce again.

More Spring Pictures!

The lighting wasn't wonderful.
But so exciting to see crocuses popping up to say,
"HAPPY SPRING!"

Rebekah

Meet Rebekah

Rebekah is my niece. She turned 28 in January.

Last year, she went to the doctor for a headache that just wouldn't go away.
The doctor found a tumor.
They operated and removed most of it.

Then came the radiation:

And chemo.
It made her hair fall out. :(

I was proud of her when she took ownership and shaved the rest off.
SHE owned that cancer, not the other way around!

Isn't she BEAUTIFUL?!?

Now it's growing back in...

but she's on a second round of chemo because two more tumors were found.

Rebekah is on my American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team- The GooFy Gang.

Would you please consider a donation for our team?

And while you're there, sign up on our team! There's plenty of space!

My Brother

In just a few minutes, it will be the 3 year anniversary of the passing of my Brother in Love,
Duane,
AKA The Blueberry Muffin.

(sigh...) It seems like just yesterday we got the call to race to the hospital to possibly say good-bye.

It was surreal.
We thought his mom was just being dramatic.
Martin had JUST spoken with him, face to face, the evening before.
How could he possibly be in the hospital on life support after having just seen him??

His heart had stopped for 30 minutes, but the doctors got it to beating again.
He went into cardiac arrest a second time.
He should have been dead on February 2nd.

But he held on.

So did we.

Hoping.

Signs of improvement.

And then nothing.

Finally, the verdict: Brain dead.

Nothing left to do.

I miss you, Duane.

Tagged!

Oh dear, I've been tagged twice. I don't mind putting two pictures up, but my list of possible victims is limited. Here's what I'll do...

6th picture of the 6th folder from the top of the list...
Nigel being cute under the Christmas Tree. He looked like he was contemplating climbing it to become Kringus, the Demon God of Christmas... It's a comic strip... Never mind. :P

6th picture of the 6th folder from the bottom of the list...
This was the storm of 2003/2004 where we were stuck inside for days and days because the ice and snow were so thick. We walked to a nearby park and I loved how the snow/ice had decorated the swing set.

4 people I TRIED to tag:
Angela - already tagged by Amy
Merilee- tagged by Dana
Jaynie- another one tagged by Dana
Dorinda- (sigh...) tagged by Annaliese

Steph- Yay! A new victim!
and Michelle- And another that hasn't been tagged!

So what you are supposed to do is:
Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.
1. Pick the 6th Folder, then select the the 6th picture in that folder.
2. Post that picture on your blog and the story that goes along with the picture.
3. Tag 6 other people that you know or don’t know to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog or an e-mail letting them know you chose them.

UPDATE!!
I've been tagged a THIRD time... good grief!
Okay, 6th picture from the 12th folder down (multiples of 6, get it?):

Awwww... it's Corkie being cuuuuute! Yes, he poses for the camera. I swear he's smarter than we realize.

Sick little ones

Tending to a sick little one is so hard for me.

All day yesterday and all day today I've wanted to cuddle him, but he kept refusing, saying he only wanted Mommy. But Mommy was in the office, working.

Finally he fell asleep on the ottoman and, knowing his mom would be coming out to take him to the doctor, I propped him up on my lap to sleep, hoping to ease his breathing.

It's so frustrating! There's nothing I can do except watch over him, get his meds down him, encourage him to sleep and eat little bits of something... and wait. Time will heal.

(sigh...)

learning that a friend's mom suddenly passed away from a stroke this morning (sigh...)

Sunshine:
having friends who love and respect you

having a headache all day for no apparent reason

my life, overall.
